Contract Project

University of Oregon Jacqua Center

The John E Jaqua Academic Center for Student Athletes is a 40,000 square foot building for the NCAA-mandated academic services for student athletes. Located next to the office of admissions at Oregon Hall, the Jaqua Center is a steel and glass cubic structure with floor-to-ceiliing vison glass which allows natural daylight to flood to interior space. Designed by ZGF Architects LLP, the building is intended for introspection, study and learning. This concept is reinforced by the reflecting pool that surrounds the building on all four sides, as well as the Birch “forest” on the North side, both which provide a tranquil respite in an otherwise busy landscape. The interior makes extensive use of wood, bringing warmth to the modern design. Fin Dining Chairs by Matthew Hilton line the study tables next to the cafe area.

London Design Festival 2010 - Review

This year's London Design Festival was our most exciting to date. The Tramshed event was truly one of the key destinations at this year's festival and we were overwhelmed by the positive response from press, architects, retailers, fellow designers and the public. The Tramshed included 25 authentic, high-end design brands alongside whom we were proud to exhibit. Our own Human Made exhibition within The Tramshed included over 20 new products from six designer-led brands including Matthew Hilton, Studioilse, Autoban, VanHoffontwerpen, Charlene Mullen and Leif.designpark. Each brand was creative director of their own stand, telling their unique story in their own visual language. The Tramshed was buzzing with activity, not only from the excitement over the exhibitors, but from The Tramshed Live seminar series as well. The discussions were truly a joy to watch, covering topics under the overall theme “New Directions for Design” discussed by distinguished speakers. Ilse Crawford led the discussion on “Can Design Make Us More Human?”, Patricia Urquiola and Giulio Ridolfo were among speakers on “Luxury, Necessity and Sustainability” and on the topic of “Redesigning design, remaking making”, Luis De Oliveira was in discussion with, among others, Matthew Hilton and Omer Arbel.
